As an Italian who has lived in Ludlow for 50 years, I am delighted to be the president of the Ludlow San Pietro Twinning Association which was formed over twenty years ago. I have been involved from the beginning and over the years we have encouraged many families and individuals to take part in exchanges and visits to Italy where we have always received tremendous hospitality and friendship.
The Twinning Association enjoys a close relationship with the hugely popular Ludlow Food and Drink Festival and we are delighted that Italian wine producers and chefs have visited Ludlow almost every year to support the festival.
We are a relatively small group and don’t meet very often but If you have any interest in Italy or would like the opportunity to learn more about our Twin Town and their delicious wine and food, we would be very pleased to welcome you into the fold.
Carla Phelps President Ludlow San Pietro Twinning Association
The town of Ludlow, in Shropshire, UK, formally twinned with San Pietro in Cariano, Italy, in April 1992. The Comune di San Pietro comprises a collection of five small towns and villages, in an area of about 10,000 people and is twenty minutes both from the wonderful historic city of Verona, and from the magnificent Lake Garda. It lies in the heart of the Valpolicella wine-producing region.
Italian twinning members and wine producers visit Ludlow each year to set up stall in Ludlow’s Food and Drink Festival, and a group from Ludlow regularly visits San Pietro in May for their equivalent wine and food festival - the Magnalonga, or Long Eat.
As well as organised visits and exchanges between the two communities, we hold occasional social events during the year for members and friends.
